Although not dealing with Scottish wildlife species, the parrot sanctuary on the island of Kerrera, near Oban, is well worth a visit if you are in the area. As well as being the only centre of its kind in Scotland and providing a much needed service, the centre also strongly pushes the message that wild animals need to stay in the wild.
Access to Kerrera is by passenger ferry from just outside Oban. There is a very pleasant walk to the sanctuary and if you continue on to the tea room and ruins of Gylen castle at the south of the island then it really is the perfect day out. The walk is along a track and is suitable for children and sturdy pushchairs.
